We left the cute little town of Cedar Falls this morning, with our yummy coffees from "Cup of Joe." Another scenic drive to first go and see some of the Barn Quilts of Grundy County. After driving through parts of Grundy we stopped in Conrad, IA to see Hen & Chicks quilt shop / retreat center. They have an upstairs that quilters can rent out and hold quilt retreats. Our next stop was to see the Amana Colonies and that was a lovely area as well! If you haven't heard of the Amana Colonies, which we had not, do look it up and read the history, very interesting! This is also where Amana washers, etc. are made. I found the Grundy Barn Quilt Trail, Amana Colonies, and Pella like I have most of our fun stops from each night researching our AAA books & Google for the things we want to do the next day. Then we drove on to our next destination, the town of Pella, IA. It is as you will see in the pictures a Dutch town and yes the home of Pella Windows. Their "Tulip Festival" isn't until Mother's Day weekend but as you can see all the tulips are in bloom and very few are not open. So, we felt very lucky to happen upon Pella at this beautiful time of year!! Never have we seen so many varieties of tulips! For the first time we found a better rate at a downtown hotel by calling the hotel. Each day I use Trip Advisor to gather info on the hotels in our overnight spot and every time I have called the hotel and checked online, the online price has always been a better rate until today! So it does pay to take the time and check both ways!
