March 31, 2016

Big Bend National Park day 2.  We went on a geological tour with a park volunteer and then drove more around the park with our final stop to see the Santa Elena Canyon on the Rio Grande.  After leaving the Canyon we were surprised to see a completely different topography on this side of the park as we drove out towards Terlingua on Texas 170, next to Presidio and then onto US 67 to Alpine,Texas for our over night stay.  Found a great hotel downtown.  It was a sunny warm day so we walked around the small downtown area before it was time for dinner.

Driving on the other side of the park, what a difference!

Again amazing drive with amazing scenery.

These water gauges are every where.  But not much water lately!

Driving through the park the first day continued.  Oh... we saw a big group of  Prairie Dogs playing on the road and along side the road but didn't get a picture; but did get a picture of a road runner at the lodge walking right by us.  We saw many on the drive and they are so funny, you always see them crossing the road.
